The place
The hotel sits within Bankside Yards on London's South Bank, between Tate Modern and Blackfriars, with views across the Thames toward St Paul's Cathedral.
The concept
This would be Mandarin Oriental's third London property, alongside its long-established Hyde Park hotel and the more recent Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. Designed by PLP Architecture as part of Bankside Yards — billed as the UK's first operationally fossil-fuel-free mixed-use development — the scheme is built around a cluster of historic railway arches that run through the site, reconnecting the area between Tate Modern and Blackfriars station.
Dining & wellness
Plans call for four restaurants, including one on the 19th floor with panoramic city views, plus function rooms, a spa, a lap pool and a fitness centre. Residents get a separate sky lobby lounge and private roof garden.
