The Hyde London City

Hyde made its UK debut in September 2024 with a 111-room hotel carved into 15 Old Bailey, a Grade II-listed Victorian building that once housed the headquarters of catering firm Spiers & Pond. The opening gives Ennismore's bohemian lifestyle brand its first foothold in London, threading a music-driven, West Coast-inflected identity through a City of London address better known for courts and finance than nightlife. At its center sit Leydi, an all-day modern Turkish restaurant, and Black Lacquer, a subterranean record bar.

The place

The hotel occupies 15 Old Bailey, on the street that gives London's Central Criminal Court its name, placing it in the City of London rather than the West End or East London districts where lifestyle hotels more typically land. St Paul's Cathedral and the Barbican Centre are both a short walk away, and City Thameslink and St Paul's Underground station are reachable on foot in under five minutes. It is a location built around the Square Mile's office and legal population by day, with comparatively little residential or leisure footfall after hours — a bet that the hotel's own programming, rather than the surrounding streets, will draw an evening crowd.

The concept

Hyde London City is Ennismore's first UK property under the Hyde brand, part of the group's wider Lifestyle Collective portfolio that also includes Mondrian and SLS. It occupies a Grade II-listed building constructed in 1874 for Spiers & Pond, the Victorian catering company credited with introducing refreshment rooms to British railway stations. Interior design is by Studio Moren, tasked with reconciling the building's original stonework and period detailing with Hyde's louder, music-scene-inspired identity. The seven-storey building holds 111 rooms and suites, including a Headliner Suite with a five-metre ceiling, a marble bar and rooftop views across the City. Rooms are finished with alternating green and blue frames and botanical detailing, a quieter register than the more overtly maximalist styling seen at some other Ennismore properties. The brand leans on Hyde's origins on the Sunset Strip club scene, translated here into a listening-bar concept and curated vinyl collection rather than a poolside scene, aimed at a guest drawn to music culture and City-adjacent convenience over country-house luxury. The conversion of the listed building was reported to involve a roughly £34.3 million restoration, consistent with Ennismore's broader pattern of adapting heritage buildings for its lifestyle brands rather than building new.

Dining & wellness

Food and drink center on Leydi, an all-day modern Turkish restaurant serving meze, pide and grilled dishes family-style from breakfast through dinner, and Black Lacquer, a subterranean cocktail and record bar with a curated vinyl collection and a late-night licence. Both venues are designed to draw a local City crowd independent of hotel guests rather than function purely as in-house dining. The property does not appear to include a spa or pool; amenities instead run to meeting and event space within the historic building.
