The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel
Belmond reopened the 1887 Sloane Street hotel where Oscar Wilde was arrested in 1895 in February 2019, after more than four years closed.

The Cadogan opened in 1887 at 75 Sloane Street and closed in July 2014 for a rebuild that took more than three years. Belmond reopened it in February 2019 as its first and only London hotel, with 54 rooms, about two thirds of them suites, spread across a block of Queen Anne Revival houses between Chelsea and Knightsbridge.

The place
The hotel fills the block bounded by Sloane Street, Pont Street, Pavilion Road and Pavilion Street, in Hans Town, on the line between Chelsea and Knightsbridge. Sloane Square station is next door.
A second, quieter entrance on Pont Street lets guests come and go away from the Sloane Street frontage, and the Bar and Terrace opens onto Pont Street too. A private garden faces the hotel, with tennis courts and room for picnics.
The concept
The hotel opened at 75 Sloane Street in 1887, designed by the little-known architect H.B. Brace. Eight years later it took over the gabled houses immediately behind it, among them Lillie Langtry's home at 21 Pont Street. Sources disagree on when the actress moved in (1882 and 1892 both appear), and one says she kept her original bedroom until 1897.
Oscar Wilde usually stayed in room 118. After he lost his libel case against the Marquess of Queensberry, he was arrested there on 6 April 1895. One account says the room is now part of the Royal Suite, another that it is the Oscar Wilde suite.
The building closed in July 2014. Reopening dates slipped from 2016 to 2018 before Belmond relaunched it in February 2019, after a renovation reported at roughly $48 million. The restoration kept the Victorian shell and some original fireplaces, and modernised the interiors, which are credited to GA Design International.
The count of rooms varies between sources. Belmond's launch material gives 54, and a Michelin listing gives 65.
Dining & wellness
Adam Handling oversees the food, a contemporary British menu built around a zero-waste approach, served from an open kitchen. Sources name the main restaurant differently (Langtry's in one listing, The LaLee in another), so the name is best checked with the hotel before booking.
The Bar and Terrace serves drinks and lighter dishes, and the Tea Lounge offers a tea service Handling created. Elsewhere in the building there is a 24-hour fitness suite, a spa suite offering a range of treatments, a library, and more than 400 pieces of original art.
News
February 28, 2019: The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel opened its doors on 28 February 2019 on Sloane Street, in the building where Oscar Wilde was arrested in 1895 and where Lillie Langtry lived. It had been closed since July 2014.
November 12, 2018: Belmond announced that the Cadogan Hotel would debut in early 2019 on Sloane Street, its first and only London hotel. The project, reported at $48 million, restores an 1887 Queen Anne Revival building and reopens it with 54 rooms, about two thirds of them suites, a private garden, a spa suite, a library and a restaurant led by chef Adam Handling with a zero-waste approach.
