newhotels.io started from a simple frustration: there was no single place to see, at a glance, which hotels were genuinely new. Not a repackaged press release, not a sponsored listicle: a clear, verified record of what just opened and what’s coming next, anywhere in the world.

Why we built this

I’ve spent years building guides that people trust to make a decision, first with Newtable, a restaurant guide, and then with Où Bruncher, a guide entirely dedicated to finding the best brunch spots. Both taught me the same lesson: the value of a guide isn’t the number of listings it has, it’s the discipline behind which ones make the cut. newhotels.io applies that discipline to hotels, at a much bigger scale, because new hotels open somewhere in the world every single day.

A network of contacts, not a newsroom

This isn’t run out of a single office. Over the years I’ve built a network of contacts in several countries, people who work in hotels, in travel or simply live in the cities we cover, and who keep me posted on what is opening in the major cities and in the neighborhoods that matter. Their tips shape the choices behind the guide: which cities to follow closely, which neighborhoods deserve their own page, which openings are worth a place here. A hotel opening in Lisbon, Marrakech or Osaka deserves someone who knows the neighborhood, not a generic global summary.

How the guide is made

We use AI to help with sourcing. It scans brand announcements, trade press, planning applications and pre-opening job listings around the world, far more than one person could read in a day. It is a research assistant, not an editor: what gets covered, and where we look first, comes from me and from the contacts above.

Before a hotel earns a place on this site, it has to clear a strict, unglamorous bar: independent confirmation of the opening, a real address and a real operator, and enough substance to say something useful about it, not just a name and a stock photo. A hotel we can’t verify simply doesn’t get published, no matter how promising the announcement looks. That standard is slower than copying a press release, but it’s the only way a guide like this stays worth reading.
