The Newman

The Newman opened in London's Fitzrovia on 1 February 2026 as the debut property from Kinsfolk & Co., a boutique group founded by Paul Brackley, former managing director of Mayfair's Beaumont Hotel. The 81-room hotel occupies a purpose-built Art Deco address on Newman Street, pairing interiors by Lind + Almond with a dedicated wellness floor built around contrast therapy. It is a confident first outing for a group that has recruited alumni of Corbin & King, The Standard, The Beaumont and The Goring, and one that stakes its identity on a neighbourhood more often walked through than stayed in.

The place

The hotel stands at 50 Newman Street, in Fitzrovia, the pocket of central London bounded loosely by Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road and Great Portland Street — closer to the BT Tower than to any obvious tourist landmark. It is a five-minute walk from Goodge Street station and around six minutes from Tottenham Court Road, putting the West End, Soho and the British Museum within easy reach without placing the hotel inside their crowds. Fitzrovia has a literary and bohemian history, having once housed George Orwell, Virginia Woolf and Nancy Cunard, and today mixes independent cafés, small ad agencies and Georgian townhouses rather than the retail chains that dominate neighbouring Oxford Street. Despite that pedigree, the district has historically had few hotels to match its character, which is the gap The Newman is designed to fill.

The concept

The Newman is the first hotel from Kinsfolk & Co., a hospitality group founded by Paul Brackley after his time as managing director of The Beaumont in Mayfair. Brackley built the opening team with figures drawn from Corbin & King, The Standard and The Goring, including general manager Oliver Milne-Watson, previously of The Goring, and the group has stated an ambition to open five hotels within five years — The Newman is conceived as the template rather than a one-off. Interiors are by Lind + Almond, a London studio that leaned on Art Deco references and on Fitzrovia's own history, weaving in nods to former local residents and landmarks including Nancy Cunard, Shropshire House and the old Langham Court Hotel rather than importing a generic period-luxury look. The 81 keys run from entry-level Classic rooms up to fifteen suites and a single rooftop penthouse, which has its own terrace, sauna and cold-plunge pool. The pitch throughout is an independent, "grown-up but fun" register — Brackley's own description — that sits apart from both the corporate five-star hotels of neighbouring Mayfair and the more studied minimalism of London's recent lifestyle openings. The Newman is a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts' iPrefer programme, which places it within an established distribution network despite its independent ownership.

Dining & wellness

Brasserie Angelica is the all-day restaurant, an all-day European room built around live-fire cooking and Nordic-leaning dishes under executive chef Christian Turner, previously of The Wolseley, with Eder Nato as head of food and drink; it opens onto a street-facing terrace for outdoor dining. Below ground, Gambit Bar takes its cues from the Fitzrovia-linked artist Percy Wyndham Lewis and centres on a chess motif, hosting regular chess nights alongside a cocktail list and live music or DJ sets. The hotel's wellness floor extends the offer beyond dining: a Finnish sauna, steam room, ice lounge, halotherapy salt room and hydrotherapy plunge pool, plus treatment rooms using Nuori and Moss of the Isles products and a 24-hour gym, with day passes available to non-guests.
