The place
The hotel occupies an eight-storey new-build at 3 Berkeley Street, W1J 8DJ, directly across from Green Park in the heart of Mayfair. The address puts it within walking distance of the West End's theatres, St James's Park and the Royal Academy, an unusually central footprint for a brand built on a wellness pitch.
The concept
1 Hotel Mayfair is the first European property for 1 Hotels, the sustainability-driven brand founded by Barry Sternlicht's SH Hotels & Resorts. It is a genuine new-build rather than a conversion, with no prior hotel on the site: the brand's usual language of reclaimed wood, stone and living green walls has been transplanted wholesale into a Mayfair townhouse-scaled block. The 181 keys include 137 rooms and 44 suites, with the largest one-bedroom penthouse in Mayfair overlooking Green Park. The positioning is deliberately at odds with the neighbourhood's traditional grandeur: an eco-luxury brand, usually associated with beach and resort settings in the US, planted in the middle of London's most established hotel district, targeting a guest who wants five-star service without the gilt.
Dining & wellness
Dovetale, the ground-floor restaurant, is run by two-Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers, serving seasonal, organic and largely local produce. Neighbours Café covers all-day coffee and light bites. Dover Yard, the signature cocktail bar, is built around handcrafted dry-stone walls and an installation by artist Kate MccGwire. The Bamford Wellness Spa, opened in autumn 2023, runs treatments based on Lady Bamford's holistic approach.
