The Standard, London opened in July 2019 inside the former Camden Town Hall Annexe opposite St Pancras station — a Grade II-listed brutalist office block that had never been a hotel — as Standard International's first property outside the United States. Orms led the conversion, adding two glazed floors above the original concrete structure, while Shawn Hausman Design shaped 266 rooms and a 10th-floor Mexican restaurant, Decimo, that has become one of the hotel's signature draws. Hyatt acquired Standard International in October 2024, bringing the address into its lifestyle portfolio.

The place
The hotel occupies 10 Argyle Street in King's Cross, directly opposite St Pancras International station, in the former Camden Town Hall Annexe — a Grade II-listed brutalist office building constructed in 1974 for Camden Council and never previously used as a hotel. The station-facing position puts guests steps from the Eurostar terminal and the King's Cross/Granary Square redevelopment, in a part of London that had almost no hotel stock of this kind before the building's conversion.
The concept
The Standard, London was Standard International's first hotel outside the United States, arriving in the brand's fifth decade and marking its move beyond the American markets where it had operated exclusively since 1999. English Heritage backed the retention of the annexe's raw concrete structure, citing its architectural merit, and architecture firm Orms led a conversion that added two glazed floors to the roofline — visually distinct in orange glass from the original grey concrete below — while preserving the building's stepped brutalist form. Shawn Hausman Design handled interiors, using saturated colour, mid-century furniture and playful detailing to soften the building's institutional bones rather than disguise them; a glass-walled lift, added mid-structure, became one of the conversion's signature moves. The 266 rooms span more than 40 configurations, from compact 'Cosy' rooms to suites with private terraces and outdoor bathtubs overlooking the station throat below. Hyatt's 2024 acquisition of Standard International brought the brand — and this flagship London address — into Hyatt's lifestyle portfolio without a rebrand, positioning the hotel as a design-led counterpoint to the corporate hotels historically found around King's Cross.
Dining & wellness
Isla serves modern British food on the ground floor through the day; Double Standard is the hotel's all-day bar and dining room. Decimo, on the 10th floor, is a Mexican restaurant from chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias cooking over an open fire, with panoramic views back toward the station and the City. The Standard's Rooftop, on the 11th floor, is a bar with a retractable roof, cocktails and pizza by the slice.
