Cincinnati's downtown hotel scene has quietly transformed since 2020, almost entirely through adaptive reuse: a vacant jewelers' exchange, a shuttered women's residence, a former bank headquarters and a Procter & Gamble office tower have all been converted into hotels, alongside one true ground-up new build near the University of Cincinnati. A weekend in Cincinnati

Base yourself downtown or in Over-the-Rhine and you can cover the city's highlights on foot. Start at Fountain Square and walk north into Over-the-Rhine for Findlay Market and the historic brewery district, then loop back along the riverfront at The Banks for Great American Ball Park and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Save an evening for dinner in Over-the-Rhine, where the city's best-regarded restaurants cluster within a few blocks of each other, and a rooftop drink somewhere downtown to take in the skyline and the river.

A full week

A full week lets you range beyond downtown. Spend a day in Hyde Park and Mount Lookout for their walkable shopping streets and Ault Park, another exploring the Cincinnati Art Museum and Eden Park in Mount Adams, and a half-day in Clifton around the University of Cincinnati campus and the Cincinnati Zoo. Cross the river into Covington and Newport in Kentucky for a change of skyline and a different dining scene, and reserve time for the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, a genuinely spectacular Art Deco building regardless of your interest in its exhibits.

Clifton Heights / Midtown

Hotel Celare's ground-up new build sits directly across from the University of Cincinnati in Clifton Heights, a district with limited upscale lodging until this opening — useful for campus events, university-affiliated business travel and Clifton's own restaurant strip.

The Banks

The riverfront entertainment district between the two stadiums has seen major residential and retail investment but no tracked hotel opening in our window; visitors wanting to stay right on the river currently rely on downtown hotels a short walk away.

Hyde Park & Mount Lookout

These leafy East Side neighborhoods are strong for dining and residential character but have no tracked new hotel opening; they're best visited as day or evening trips from a downtown base rather than a place to stay.

Mount Adams

Home to the Cincinnati Art Museum and Eden Park's skyline views, Mount Adams has no tracked new hotel opening either — again, a destination for a few hours rather than an overnight base under our current research.
