The Bellevue Hotel, in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

The Bellevue reopened in November 2024 after a renovation that closed Philadelphia's 1904 'Grande Dame of Broad Street' for roughly a year. Formerly Park Hyatt Philadelphia at The Bellevue, the historic landmark re-emerged under Hyatt's Unbound Collection with 184 rooms and 39 suites — its most significant repositioning in decades.

The place

On Broad Street's Avenue of the Arts, opposite the Academy of Music and a few blocks from City Hall, the Bellevue occupies one of Philadelphia's most recognizable historic addresses — a landmark building rather than a location chosen for proximity to any single attraction.

The concept

Designed by G.W. & W.D. Hewitt and opened in 1904 as the Bellevue-Stratford, the building was, at the time, described as among the most luxurious hotels in the country. It has cycled through several operators and identities over the past century, most recently as Park Hyatt Philadelphia at The Bellevue; a 2023-2024 renovation and conversion to the Unbound Collection — Hyatt's soft-brand banner for landmark independents — restored guest rooms and public spaces while adding The Sporting Club, a 100,000-square-foot wellness facility, ahead of the November 2024 reopening.

Dining & wellness

XIX (nineteen) Cafe, Bar and Restaurant occupies the building's upper floors with Center City views and a seafood-leaning menu; The Sporting Club adds a full health-club and spa program rarely found at this scale inside a historic hotel.
