Guild House Hotel

A Victorian rowhouse that once housed The New Century Guild, a pioneering women's organization, reopened in September 2021 as a twelve-suite luxury boutique hotel in Washington Square West. Each room is named for a historical Guild member, and the project was later named one of Travel + Leisure's Best New Hotels in the World.

The place

Guild House Hotel sits in a Victorian-era rowhouse at 1307 Locust Street in Washington Square West, a walkable district of restaurants and historic sites just off Center City.

The concept

The building was the longtime home of The New Century Guild, one of the country's earliest and most prominent organizations for working women, and had never operated as a hotel before this conversion. Woman-owned Philadelphia studio ROHE Creative designed the twelve suites, each named for a historical Guild member, folding the building's feminist history into the decor rather than erasing it. The project was recognized by Travel + Leisure as one of the World's Best New Hotels in 2022, the year after it opened.
