Hotel Cala, Curio Collection by Hilton

Hotel Cala is the coming Curio Collection by Hilton rebrand of a seven-story Sheraton-turned-independent hotel on the Tampa Riverwalk, backed by a $94 million refinancing from Bain Capital and Smith Hill Capital closed in April 2026. The 281-room property is undergoing a full repositioning — new guestrooms, event spaces, façade and pool deck — targeting a late-2026 debut under its new name.

The place

200 North Ashley Drive, directly on the Hillsborough River in Downtown Tampa's Riverwalk District, about half a mile from the Tampa Convention Center and under a mile from Amalie Arena.

The concept

The seven-story property was built as a Sheraton before Newbond Holdings and Apollo-affiliated funds acquired it in late 2022 and briefly operated it as the independent Hotel Tampa Riverwalk. In April 2026, Bain Capital and Smith Hill Capital closed a $94 million refinancing to fund a full repositioning of the building as Hotel Cala, joining Hilton's Curio Collection. The renovation covers redesigned guestrooms, reimagined meeting and event spaces, an updated façade, enhanced waterfront public areas and a new destination pool deck, running through the second half of 2026.
