Hotel Haya opened in September 2020 as Ybor City's first boutique hotel, built from two joined historic buildings — including the former home of Tampa's oldest restaurant. Its 178 rooms and mid-century Cuban design pay direct homage to the neighborhood's Cuban, Spanish and Italian cigar-era heritage.
Hotel Haya sits at 1412 E. Seventh Avenue in Ybor City, Tampa's landmarked cigar-heritage district, occupying two joined historic structures: the former Las Novedades restaurant building (1890) and the neighboring Warren Building.
The concept
Hotel Haya is a new hotel operation built inside two previously non-hotel historic buildings rather than a ground-up tower — the first hotel Ybor City has ever had. Local firm Alfonso Architects fused the two 19th- and early-20th-century volumes, and construction crews uncovered tile paintings evoking Spanish artist Francisco Goya's work behind the walls, which the finished hotel now displays.
The interior design draws on Ybor City's layered Cuban, Spanish and Italian immigrant history, aiming for a 'mid-century Cuban' aesthetic — exposed brick, warm blue-red-brown-gold palettes, and hand-blown glass globe fixtures made locally at the Morean Art Center to echo the neighborhood's historic street lamps. It opened during the pandemic in September 2020 as Aparium Hotel Group's largest property at the time.
Dining & wellness
Flor Fina, an upscale Latin- and Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, plus Café Quiquiriqui for casual all-day dining. A secluded courtyard pool lined with Italian white tile serves as the hotel's social hub, and the property has roughly 4,000–5,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
