The place

Hotel Celare is a ground-up, seven-story new build at 310 Straight Street in The District at Clifton Heights, directly across from the University of Cincinnati campus, a short drive from downtown.

The concept

Developed by Crawford Hoying with Shaner Hotel Group as operator, Hotel Celare opened January 17, 2025 as an entirely new construction project rather than a conversion — a rarity among Cincinnati's recent hotel openings, most of which reuse historic buildings. Meyers+Associates designed the contemporary glass-heavy exterior, wrapped by a 22-by-37-foot mural of a Lazarus Lizard by Ohio artist Miss Birdy, while Texas-based Studio 11 Design handled interiors. The hotel was voted the No. 4 Best New Hotel of 2026 by USA Today's readers' poll.

Dining & wellness

The Vick, a seventh-floor rooftop restaurant and bar with a retro 1950s aesthetic, handles dinner and drinks with skyline views; Iris Café covers coffee and pastries by day and converts into a bar in the evening.
