The place
Mission Valley sits just north of downtown San Diego along the San Diego River, a commercial corridor of shopping centers, office parks and, increasingly, redevelopment around the former Qualcomm Stadium site — now home to Snapdragon Stadium and San Diego State University's Mission Valley campus. The hotel stands on Qualcomm Way, about eight miles from San Diego International Airport and a short drive from Hotel Circle, Snapdragon Stadium, Balboa Park and the University of San Diego. After years without new hotel supply, Element's arrival tracks the neighborhood's broader shift from a car-dependent retail district toward a denser, more mixed-use area.
The concept
Developed by Driftwood Capital and designed by architecture firm Architects Orange, with interiors by Linda Snyder Associates, the seven-story, roughly 98,000-square-foot Element occupies a 1.5-acre site next to the existing Marriott San Diego Mission Valley. The two hotels are connected by walkways and share a driveway, a ballroom, a roughly 5,000-square-foot courtyard, a pool and a parking garage — together offering up to 500 rooms and more than 40,000 square feet of meeting and event space for groups that need scale neither property could offer alone. Element is Marriott's extended-stay, sustainability-oriented brand, and this property leans into that positioning: 111 of the 148 rooms and suites are outfitted with full kitchens rather than kitchenettes, aimed at longer-staying guests, relocating employees and groups tied to nearby SDSU and the stadium district. Sustainability features include energy-efficient LED lighting, low-VOC paints, water-saving fixtures, in-room recycling, electric-vehicle charging stations and complimentary bikes for guests. It is the first Element-branded hotel in San Diego County.
Dining & wellness
On-site dining centers on the Element Lobby Bar and a complimentary Rise breakfast served daily with continental, grab-and-go and hot options at a chef's station. Guests also have access to The DEN, the restaurant at the adjacent Marriott San Diego Mission Valley. Wellness amenities include a 24-hour Motion fitness center with Life Fitness equipment, a resort-style pool with cabanas, and an outdoor fire pit terrace — several of which are shared with, or mirror those at, the neighboring Marriott property.
