AC Hotel San Diego Downtown Gaslamp Quarter

AC Hotel San Diego Downtown Gaslamp Quarter opened in March 2023 as Marriott's AC Hotels brand debut in San Diego, a 147-room, eight-story new-build raised behind a preserved historic facade on 6th Avenue. Developed by the Briad Group in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter's entertainment district, the hotel built its identity around a European-inspired design and a rooftop bar that has since been reworked twice, most recently into Sunbird in April 2026.

The place

The hotel sits at 743 Fifth Avenue, inside the Gaslamp Quarter's sixteen-block historic core of Victorian-era buildings turned restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center are both under a mile away, putting the hotel within reach of ballgame crowds, convention delegates and the district's late-night foot traffic alike. Seaport Village and the waterfront are a short walk west, and San Diego International Airport is roughly 3.7 miles away. It is a location built for density and activity rather than quiet, matching a neighborhood where restaurants and bars operate late into the night year-round.

The concept

AC Hotel San Diego Downtown Gaslamp Quarter was Briad Group's second AC Hotel project with Marriott and the brand's first in San Diego, built on a 69,000-square-foot footprint that preserved the historic facade along 6th Avenue while raising an entirely new eight-story structure behind it. The design team, led by Chuck Pagnotta of Briad Construction Services, worked in the European-inspired register AC Hotels is known for: a calming palette of taupe, white and coastal blues and teals, natural marble flooring with champagne bronze insets, handcrafted wood detailing and mother-of-pearl backsplashes across the 147 guest rooms. The hotel targets the brand-loyal business and design-conscious leisure traveler AC Hotels typically courts, offering a fitness center, a small Media Salon meeting room for up to eight people, and the brand's signature AC Kitchen and AC Lounge format rather than a full-service restaurant. Ownership changed hands in October 2025, when a joint venture between Pyramid Global Hospitality, Western & Southern Financial Group and its real estate arm Eagle Realty Group acquired the property from Briad, a transaction that has not altered the hotel's AC Hotels branding or Gaslamp Quarter position.

Dining & wellness

AC Kitchen serves a European-leaned breakfast built around imported French croissants and Italian meats, while AC Lounge runs the brand's standard cocktail, craft beer and small-plates program off the lobby. The rooftop has changed identity twice: it opened in summer 2023 as Techo Beso, a Tulum-inspired bar and pool deck with hand-crafted cocktails and unobstructed Gaslamp views, then relaunched in April 2026 as Sunbird, a coastal-tropical redesign built around Citrus Coastal and Tropical Island drink menus, small plates and a wraparound skyline view — open Thursday through Sunday and largely a 21-plus scene by evening.
