The Guild Hotel, San Diego Downtown, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, opened in June 2019 inside a converted 1924 Army-Navy YMCA on West Broadway. Developer Oram Hotels and operator Azul Hospitality Group's $80 million renovation turned the 162-room property's former basketball court, running track and pool into event spaces, under Marriott's Tribute Portfolio flag.

The place

The Guild Hotel occupies 500 West Broadway in downtown San Diego, a seven-story Italianate Renaissance building a few blocks from the Gaslamp Quarter and the downtown waterfront. The address keeps guests inside the civic and business core of downtown rather than in the denser nightlife strip immediately to the south.

The concept

The building opened in 1924 as an Army-Navy YMCA, offering recreation and lodging to military personnel, and had never previously operated as a commercial hotel before San Diego developer Alvin Mansour's Oram Hotels and managing partner Azul Hospitality Group converted it, with Incommon Design overseeing interiors, in an $80 million renovation. The 162-room hotel, which opened in June 2019 under Marriott's Tribute Portfolio banner, preserved period exterior details of the seven-floor building while reworking former recreational spaces — including the original basketball court, an elevated running track and an underground pool — into ballrooms and event space.

Dining & wellness

The Guild Bar serves the hotel's lobby and public spaces with cocktails built around the building's history, alongside a locally influenced restaurant. Further specifics on any additional dining concepts were not independently confirmed at the time of writing.
