The Margot Hotel opened in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter on May 7, 2026, as one of the first properties in Outset Collection, the lifestyle brand Hilton launched in October 2025 to house independent, story-led hotels under its loyalty umbrella. The 135-suite property sits a short walk from Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center, and builds its identity around a fictional local host named Margot rather than a conventional design theme.
The hotel stands at 502 10th Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego's historic entertainment district of Victorian-era commercial buildings turned bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, is a few blocks away, as is the San Diego Convention Center, putting the hotel within easy reach of both game-day crowds and citywide conference traffic. The Gaslamp Quarter trolley stop and the East Village give quick access to downtown and the waterfront. It is a dense, walkable, activity-driven location rather than a scenic one, and it favors travelers who want to be in the middle of things over those seeking quiet.
The concept
The Margot Hotel is managed by Ensemble, a Long Beach-based hospitality and real estate firm, and carries the flag of Outset Collection by Hilton, a brand unveiled in October 2025 as Hilton's response to the growing market for independent, "soulful" hotels that still want access to Hilton Honors and global distribution. Outset has more than 60 properties in various stages of development across the U.S., spanning urban boutiques to outdoor-adventure lodges, and The Margot Hotel is among the first to open under the flag. Rather than lean on a design pedigree or a historic building story, the hotel is built around "Margot," a fictional persona Hilton describes as shaping the property's service style, recommendations and neighborhood partnerships — an attempt to make a chain-affiliated hotel read as a personally run one.
All 135 rooms are suites with fully equipped kitchens, open floor plans and floor-to-ceiling windows facing downtown, aimed at a mix of extended-stay, game-day and conference travelers who want more space than a standard hotel room. The property is pet-friendly, and Hilton's materials emphasize eco-conscious touches such as reusable water bottles and reduced single-use plastics. An eighth-floor terrace with a fire pit and outdoor lounge and dining seating is the hotel's main shared amenity, alongside a 24-hour fitness center and valet parking; there is no pool or spa.
Dining & wellness
Food and beverage at The Margot Hotel is limited for now. A lobby bar serving what Hilton's materials describe as "Margot's favorite drinks" was slated to open after the hotel itself, and in the meantime the property leans on Cloud 9, a food-delivery service sourcing from local restaurants, plus curated recommendations from nearby food and artisan businesses as part of the Margot persona concept. The eighth-floor terrace, with its fire pit and outdoor dining and lounge seating, doubles as the hotel's informal social space. No on-site restaurant, breakfast service or spa is offered.
