Financed by Zach White after he watched a rival hotel burn to the ground, architect Henry Trost's 1912 building crowned its lobby with a stained-glass dome in the Tiffany style, over 45 feet across. Guests once watched gunfire from the 1914 Mexican Revolution from its roof terraces, and later visitors ranged from Amelia Earhart to six U.S. presidents.
