Motto by Hilton Nashville Downtown opened in January 2026 as the brand's debut in Music City: a 13-story, 260-room micro-hotel on 3rd Avenue South in SoBro, developed by Mortenson and designed by Nashville firm ESa. Rooms run as small as 150 square feet, with nearly a third of them built to lock together into clusters of up to six — a direct bet on Nashville's group-heavy, short-stay tourist traffic.

The place

The hotel sits at 311 3rd Avenue South, three blocks south of Broadway in SoBro, the stretch of downtown Nashville rebuilt over the past decade around the Music City Center convention complex, Bridgestone Arena and the Cumberland River waterfront. Wedged on an infill lot between a Drury Plaza and a Hyatt Place, it reads as one more addition to a downtown hotel corridor rather than a landmark in its own right. The trade-off is convenience: the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium and the bars of Lower Broadway are all within a ten-minute walk, and upper-floor rooms look out toward Nissan Stadium and the river.

The concept

Motto by Hilton is Hilton's micro-room lifestyle brand, built on the premise that a hotel room can shrink without the stay feeling smaller. Nashville's property — the brand's first in the city — was developed and built by Mortenson, with Nashville-based ESa as architect, Wild Muse Interiors handling interiors and KVD on landscape. Rooms run 150 to 180 square feet, roughly half the footprint of a standard American hotel room, and the building's exterior nods to the Victorian and Italianate storefronts of Nashville's historic downtown blocks rather than a generic glass-tower vocabulary. ESa's design team has framed the logic plainly: strip out space a guest staying a night or two won't use, and let them spend the savings on the city instead of the room. The defining feature is Motto's Confirmed Connecting Room system: 30 percent of the 260 rooms — 44 in total — can be locked into private clusters of up to six, aimed at friend groups, bachelorette parties and touring musicians who would otherwise book a scattered block of rooms. The room mix runs to compact kings, queens with a lofted twin, and bunk configurations for larger groups, landing closer to a design-conscious hostel than a conventional boutique hotel. It is a bet on Nashville's particular tourism economy — high-volume, group-heavy, short-stay — rather than on the individualist design statement other lifestyle brands chase.

Dining & wellness

Food and beverage centers on Junie's Drink and Graze, an all-day restaurant and bar named for Junie Wood, a champion-winning Quarter Horse, serving globally inspired small plates alongside a cocktail list built around the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, from breakfast through nightcaps. A ground-level coffee shop and bar covers the morning and quick-turn end of the day, set within roughly 3,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space at the building's base. The hotel also has a fitness center, flexible meeting space and a common area opening onto an outdoor patio — functional rather than spa-grade, in keeping with the brand's stripped-down positioning.
