Tulsa now tracks two open hotels and one large convention project still in planning. Brut Hotel, a mile south of downtown, and Tulsa Club Hotel in the Deco District cover the city's boutique and historic-conversion end; a $390 million, up to 650-room convention center hotel has a developer and a 2029 target but no confirmed opening date yet. Downtown's Deco District and Blue Dome District concentrate most of what a first-time visitor needs, with the riverfront Gathering Place a short drive south, and the city's oil-boom-era Art Deco architecture giving the two open hotels their shared backdrop.
What to do
A weekend in Tulsa
Start at Philbrook Museum of Art, set inside a 1920s Italian Renaissance villa built for oilman Waite Phillips, with 23 acres of formal and wooded gardens surrounding a collection that runs from European classics to Native American art. Walk from there into downtown's Deco District, where Tulsa Club Hotel occupies a restored 1927 landmark among dozens of other oil-boom-era Art Deco buildings. In the afternoon, head to Gathering Place, the 66-acre riverfront park along the Arkansas River that opened in 2018 with a beach, a paddleboat pond, sports courts and a five-acre adventure playground, before finishing the evening in the Blue Dome District, named for the blue-domed former Gulf gas station still standing at its center, a few blocks from Tulsa Club Hotel.
A full week
With more time, the Woody Guthrie Center covers Tulsa's folk-music history through the singer's own archives and handwritten lyrics, part museum and part working study of his approach to activism. The Greenwood District tells the city's Black Wall Street history at Greenwood Rising, an interactive museum documenting the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and the district's rebuilding, and Route 66 runs directly through Tulsa, with the Golden Driller statue and several preserved motor-court signs along 11th Street worth a detour for anyone driving the historic route.
Where to stay
South of downtown: Brut Hotel
Brut Hotel opened in 2023 a mile south of downtown, in the fully remodeled 1953 Boulder Plaza Apartments and River Parks Lofts building: a brutalist structure that once also housed a business school. The 82-room hotel pairs its concrete architecture with what the property describes as "tropical serenity," anchored by a rooftop restaurant, Soma, and a full-service spa, with rooms starting from $145 a night.
Deco District, downtown: Tulsa Club Hotel
Tulsa Club Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton opened in April 2019 inside the restored 1927 Tulsa Club building, a young Bruce Goff's Art Deco design for a private social club that had stood vacant for decades before this conversion into the first hotel to occupy the address. The 96-room property centers on a ninth-floor ballroom seating up to 300 guests, a few blocks from the Blue Dome District's restaurants and bars, with rooms starting from $150.
Civic Center: Downtown Tulsa Convention Center Hotel (planned)
A $390 million, up to 650-room hotel is planned to connect directly to Tulsa's Arvest Convention Center at 600 Civic Center Plaza, on the site of the former Police Courts Building and a block from the BOK Center. The city says its lack of a connected convention hotel cost it 32 conventions during the 2024-25 fiscal year alone; Dallas-based Matthews Hospitality, developer of the Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel and currently building comparable projects in Fort Lauderdale and Savannah, was formally selected in October 2025 after a competitive bidding process. Groundbreaking is targeted for 2026 and opening for 2029, though no hotel brand or operator has been named yet.
Which hotel for your trip
Travelers who want a design-led stay
Brut Hotel's brutalist architecture, rooftop restaurant and spa suit visitors more interested in a distinctive building than a historic one, a mile from downtown's main sights but an easy rideshare from Gathering Place.
Travelers who want to be inside the Deco District
Tulsa Club Hotel puts guests inside a restored 1927 Art Deco landmark a few blocks from the Blue Dome District, within walking distance of most of downtown's restaurants, bars and the Philbrook-to-Woody-Guthrie museum circuit.
Travelers planning around Tulsa's convention calendar
Until the planned convention center hotel opens, no earlier than 2029, Tulsa Club Hotel is the closer walk to the BOK Center and the Arvest Convention Center among the two hotels currently open.
