Coming soon in Johns Island
Johns Island is a largely rural barrier-island community about 20 minutes from downtown Charleston, South Carolina, and close to the Kiawah and Seabrook Island resort areas. New Hotels tracks one confirmed project here so far: Jubilee, a 75-key wellness hotel and walkable town center targeted for 2028.
The island
Johns Island has historically had virtually no hotels of its own despite sitting between Charleston and two of the East Coast's best-known resort islands, meaning most visitors to the area stay 30 to 45 minutes away rather than on the island itself. The Angel Oak, a live oak tree estimated at 300 to 400 years old, is the island's best-known single landmark, alongside a growing scene of farms, wineries and distilleries around neighboring Wadmalaw Island.
What to do
Beachwalker Park, at the island's south end near Kiawah, is regularly ranked among the country's top public beaches. Bohicket Marina, between Seabrook and Kiawah Islands, offers boat rentals, inshore fishing charters, paddleboard and kayak rentals and waterfront dining. Oak Point Golf Course, on Betsy Kerrison Parkway, is a well-regarded local course, and downtown Charleston's historic district is about 20 minutes away for a day of cobblestone streets, antebellum architecture and dining.
Getting there
Charleston International Airport, about 30 to 40 minutes away depending on traffic, is the nearest major gateway.
