Ritz-Carlton's NoMad debut
Open · 2022
The Ritz-Carlton opened its long-awaited NoMad property on July 26, 2022, marking the brand's first new-build debut in Manhattan and its return to the neighborhood after decades away from the city's midtown core. The 50-story tower at 25 West 28th Street pairs 250 guest rooms and suites with 16 penthouse residences, a José Andrés dining program, and a spa built for a clientele the brand is trying to skew younger.

The place
The hotel sits at 25 West 28th Street in NoMad — the stretch of Manhattan north of Madison Square Park that took its name from the old Flower District and has spent the past decade filling in with boutique retail, ad agencies and a dense cluster of hotel openings. The location splits the difference between the Flatiron District, Koreatown and Midtown South, putting guests within walking distance of the Empire State Building, Madison Square Park and the Fifth Avenue shopping corridor without sitting inside the more saturated Midtown hotel belt. It is also a symbolic choice for the brand: NoMad has become one of the most closely watched submarkets for new luxury openings in the city, and Ritz-Carlton's arrival here was read as a deliberate move to plant a flag in a younger, design-forward pocket of Manhattan rather than repeat its more traditional uptown footprint.
The concept
Developed by New York-based Flag Luxury Group and designed by architect Rafael Viñoly, the tower rises 50 stories and folds a hotel, a set of branded residences and a run of restaurants and bars into a single new-build address — a departure for a brand whose New York history had been built on conversions of older buildings. Interiors were split across several design firms, including Rockwell Group and Martin Brudnizki, giving the public spaces a more varied, less uniformly corporate feel than earlier Ritz-Carlton properties. The hotel counts 250 guest rooms and suites, with published figures diverging slightly on the exact suite count, plus 16 one- and two-bedroom penthouse residences on the upper floors — sold separately from the hotel inventory. The positioning is explicitly generational: Marriott has described the NoMad property as part of an effort to bring Ritz-Carlton to a younger, more design-literate traveler than the brand's classic country-club-adjacent image, leaning on a boundary-pushing restaurant program and a neighborhood associated with independent hotels rather than legacy luxury chains. Every guest room was designed to include a view over the Manhattan skyline, a detail the brand has used as a central marketing point for the opening.
Dining & wellness
Food and beverage at the property is anchored by chef José Andrés, who operates multiple venues in the building: Zaytinya, a roughly 140-seat restaurant serving a mezze menu drawing on Turkish, Greek and Lebanese traditions, and The Bazaar by José Andrés, a larger-format restaurant that followed later in 2022. Nubeluz, the rooftop bar, offers a 270-degree view across Manhattan alongside cocktails and small plates, complemented by a ground-floor Lobby Lounge and Bazaar Bar. Wellness facilities include a 6,800-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Spa with eight treatment rooms, a sauna and a steam room, with treatments built around Augustinus Bader skincare products.
