The place
The hotel occupies 20 East 76th Street at Madison Avenue, on the Upper East Side near the Frick Collection. The 1926 building operated for decades as the independent Surrey Hotel before this renovation.
The concept
The Reuben Brothers, who bought the Surrey in 2020, chose Corinthia — the Malta-based group's first US property — to relaunch the address rather than reopening it independently, a genuine operator change on a building that never left hotel use. Martin Brudnizki's interiors keep the townhouse scale of the Upper East Side while adding a Sisley-branded spa and 14 private residences above the hotel floors, positioning it for guests who want a discreet, residential-feeling base uptown rather than a Midtown flagship.
Dining & wellness
Café Boulud, chef Daniel Boulud's long-running Upper East Side restaurant, returns to the address alongside Casa Tua, the Miami-founded restaurant group's first New York location, designed by Michele Bonan. The Corinthia Spa, developed with French skincare house Sisley, anchors the wellness offer.
