Aman New York
83 suites inside the landmark 1921 Crown Building on Fifth Avenue
Open · August 2022
Aman opened its first New York property on August 2, 2022, installing 83 suites inside the restored Crown Building, the 1921 Beaux-Arts tower on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. It arrived as the group's answer to a decade of demand for an Aman address in Manhattan, and immediately ranked among the most expensive city hotels in the world, with opening rates starting around $4,000 a night.

The place
The hotel occupies floors of the Crown Building, a century-old Beaux-Arts landmark at 730 Fifth Avenue that once housed the first home of the Museum of Modern Art, at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The address sits at the convergence of the flagship retail strip along Fifth Avenue, the Plaza Hotel and Central Park a few blocks north, and the gallery and jewelry district that surrounds it — a location dense with foot traffic and constant visibility rather than seclusion. Aman's conversion of a historic office and retail tower into a residential-scaled hotel is itself part of the story: the brand built its reputation on remote resorts, and this project tested what an Aman reads like dropped into one of the busiest corners of American retail.
The concept
Aman New York is the brand's first true urban flagship in the United States, developed by Aman chairman and CEO Vladislav Doronin's OKO Group alongside Colony NorthStar, with interiors and architecture by Jean-Michel Gathy of the Malaysia-based firm Denniston. The design strips back the ornate historic shell of the Crown Building to Aman's signature restraint — pale stone, timber and quiet, uncluttered rooms — with suites ranging roughly from 775 to 2,770 square feet and ceilings near 11 feet high, unusually generous by Manhattan hotel standards. Every suite includes a wood-burning fireplace, a first for a New York City hotel, along with oversized bathrooms with oval soaking tubs and marble rain showers. Beyond the 83 suites, the building holds 22 branded Aman Residences and the first Aman Club, a members-only enclave that gives the property a private, quasi-residential character distinct from a conventional transient hotel. The result is positioned less as a stopover than as a long-stay urban retreat for guests already familiar with Aman's resort circuit — an attempt to import the brand's slow, spa-centered pacing into a building that shares an intersection with some of the densest retail real estate on the planet.
Dining & wellness
Food and beverage centers on Arva, an Italian restaurant drawing on rustic cucina del raccolto traditions with seasonal, sustainably sourced ingredients, and Akari, a Japanese washoku restaurant built around a Hinoki wood counter for omakase dinners served across two nightly sittings. The property also runs a Lounge Bar, a Corner Bar at street level, a year-round Garden Terrace, and a subterranean Jazz Club with live music programming. Wellness anchors the building: a roughly 25,000-square-foot Aman Spa spans three floors with a 20-meter indoor pool, hammam, banya sauna and two dedicated Spa Houses, with two-hour signature treatments priced from about $785.
