Pendry Manhattan West

Pendry Manhattan West opened in September 2021 as the brand's first hotel in New York City, occupying the base of Four Manhattan West inside Brookfield Properties' Manhattan West development on the Far West Side. The 164-room property, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill with interiors by Gachot Studios, arrived as Montage International's lifestyle offshoot made its bet on a still-forming neighborhood between Hudson Yards and Penn Station.

The place

The hotel sits between 9th and 10th Avenues, roughly 31st to 33rd Streets, inside Manhattan West, the roughly seven-acre mixed-use development Brookfield Properties built atop the West Side rail yards adjacent to Penn Station. The location places guests within walking distance of Hudson Yards, the High Line, Madison Square Garden and the Moynihan Train Hall, in a corridor that has been transformed over the past decade from rail infrastructure and parking lots into office towers, retail and public plazas. It is a transit-first address rather than a scenic one, aimed squarely at business travelers and visitors prioritizing proximity to Midtown's West Side over a more established hotel district.

The concept

Pendry is Montage International's lifestyle brand, positioned as a design-driven, less formal counterpart to the company's Montage luxury hotels. Manhattan West marked the brand's New York debut and its first major East Coast urban property, following earlier openings in San Diego and West Hollywood. The building was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill as part of the wider Manhattan West complex, with interiors by Gachot Studios and lighting by L'Observatoire International; Brookfield Properties developed the site and partnered with Pendry to bring the hotel into the base of the Four Manhattan West tower. The 164 rooms, including 30 suites, lean toward a residential, understated aesthetic rather than the maximalist or theatrical styling common among some lifestyle competitors, with the hotel positioned to draw both corporate travel tied to the surrounding office campus and leisure guests drawn to the broader Hudson Yards and Chelsea area. The property includes over 6,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a fitness center equipped with Peloton and Technogym machines, a movement studio for yoga and stretching, and a curated art collection featuring New York and Los Angeles-based artists, plus exclusive guest access to Midnight Theatre, a variety venue within the complex.

Dining & wellness

Dining centers on Zou Zou's, an Eastern Mediterranean restaurant operated by Quality Branded, alongside Bar Pendry, the hotel's signature lobby cocktail bar, and the Garden Room, an all-day dining and lounge space. The offering reflects Pendry's broader pattern of partnering with independent restaurant groups rather than running dining in-house, mirroring the approach taken at its other properties.
