Urban Cowboy Denver occupies the 1886 George Schleier Mansion at 1665 Grant Street in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood, on the edge of downtown Denver.

The concept

The Queen Anne–style mansion was designed in the 1880s by noted Denver architect Frank Edbrooke for silk-hat magnate George Schleier, and spent its last three decades as office space before being slated for demolition. Brooklyn-founded boutique brand Urban Cowboy — known for reviving historic buildings rather than building new — took it on as its first Colorado property, opening a 16-suite hotel there in October 2024, its first-ever operation as a hotel. Co-founder Lyon Porter led the interior design, preserving period details such as gargoyle- and Bavarian-swan-carved staircase balusters and ornate fireplace tilework, while adding hammered-copper soaking tubs to every one of the 16 guest suites. A two-story carriage house on the property was converted into the Urban Cowboy Public House, a bar and restaurant now positioned as a neighborhood gathering spot as much as a hotel amenity.
