Owston Hotel
An Italian locanda spirit fills an 11-room heritage conversion in Fremantle's West End
Open · March 16, 2026
Owston Hotel opened March 16, 2026, inside the heritage Owston's Buildings on High Street in Fremantle's West End, converting the Federation-era shopfront into an 11-room boutique hotel designed by Rezen Studio. Built around an Italian locanda concept, it routes guests to sister venues Ode to Sirens, Common Bakery and Vin Populi for check-in drinks, breakfast and dining rather than housing everything under one roof.

The place
Owston Hotel occupies the heritage Owston's Buildings on High Street in Fremantle's West End — a Federation-era shophouse with a 1950s overlay reflecting the neighbourhood's Italian-immigrant history — among the dense mix of limestone heritage buildings, restaurants, cafés and boutiques that define the area.
The concept
Owston converts a heritage shopfront building into an 11-room hotel built around the Italian locanda model: a small neighbourhood hotel whose hospitality is designed to extend past its own front desk. Guests check in with a drink at Ode to Sirens, a vinyl listening bar a few doors down High Street run by the same team, and can collect a spare room key there after hours if reception has closed. Rezen Studio's interiors soften the building's original Federation-era bones with a coastal palette of teal, sea glass and sun-faded blue, alongside velvet armchairs, cork flooring, terrazzo bathroom vanities and custom timber joinery, with subtle archival references throughout to Fremantle's post-war European migrant communities.
Dining & wellness
Breakfast is sourced from Common Bakery on the ground floor, guests get priority bookings at neighbouring restaurant Vin Populi, and in-room coffee comes as a pour-over ritual using beans from sister roaster Good Seeds Coffee.
