COMO The Treasury opened in October 2015 inside the meticulously restored Old Treasury Buildings in Perth's CBD — COMO Hotels & Resorts' first Australian property, and the anchor of the wider State Buildings redevelopment. The 48-room hotel occupies buildings that spent 140 years as a working government precinct before standing vacant.

The place

The hotel sits at 1 Cathedral Avenue in the heart of Perth's CBD, two minutes from Hay Street Mall and facing Stirling Gardens and the Perth Cultural Centre precinct. Its address inside a former seat of government gives it a civic gravity none of Perth's new-build hotels can claim.

The concept

Kerry Hill Architects led a AU$110 million restoration that returned around 95 per cent of the Victorian-era stone and brick State Buildings to their original form — re-instating slate and copper roofs, with over 60,000 tiles imported from a quarry in North Wales, and dormer windows — while introducing steel and glass only where no heritage fabric survived. Working with conservation architect Palassis Architects, the team paired original 19th-century government office rooms via connecting doors to form the hotel's 48 guest rooms, almost no two of which are alike. The buildings served over 140 years as a post office, land titles office, treasury and seat of government before standing vacant, making this COMO's first Australian property and its most historically layered.

Dining & wellness

Rooftop restaurant Wildflower serves a menu built around Noongar seasons and native ingredients; Post is an all-day Italian osteria set in the restored Postal Hall. The hotel also runs COMO Shambhala spa treatments and an indoor pool.
