Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf opened October 26, 2022, as Pendry Hotels & Resorts' seventh property and its first in the nation's capital. The 131-room hotel occupies a site along the Potomac River within The Wharf, the mile-long waterfront development that has remade Southwest DC's riverfront over the past decade, with architecture by ODA and interiors by Toronto-based DesignAgency.

The place

The hotel sits at 760 Maine Avenue SW, inside The Wharf, a roughly $2.5 billion mixed-use development built out along the Washington Channel since 2017. The location puts guests on a working waterfront of piers, fish markets, marinas and concert venues rather than near the National Mall's museum row, a few miles north. The Wharf itself functions as a self-contained district — restaurants, retail, a music hall, apartments and offices arranged along a promenade — and Pendry's arrival gave it a Montage International-branded anchor property at a moment when the neighborhood was still establishing its identity as a leisure and dining destination distinct from the rest of the city.

The concept

Pendry is Montage International's lifestyle brand, pitched as design-driven and less formal than the company's namesake Montage luxury hotels. Washington was the brand's seventh opening and its first East Coast property outside New York, following Pendry Manhattan West by roughly a year. ODA handled the architecture and DesignAgency the interiors, working with what the design team described as a Paris-to-DC thread — European-style modernism reworked with references to the two capitals' shared architectural history, rendered in a way meant to read as contemporary rather than pastiche. The 131 rooms and suites lean toward that same restrained, residential register rather than a themed or maximalist aesthetic, with the hotel positioned to draw both the leisure travelers The Wharf was built to attract and business guests visiting the nearby waterfront convention and event spaces. Amenities include a pool deck, a 24-hour fitness center equipped with Technogym, Peloton and Tonal gear, a curated art collection, and more than 7,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space — a scale suited to the corporate and social bookings that waterfront hotels in this segment depend on.

Dining & wellness

Dining runs through three concepts: Moonraker, a rooftop restaurant and bar built around Japanese-inspired dishes such as Tokyo fried chicken and yellowtail sashimi with panoramic Wharf views; Flora Flora, a Latin American restaurant serving small plates sourced from local farmers with a substantial plant-based selection; and Bar Pendry, the lobby cocktail lounge finished in velvet, antiqued mirror and brushed bronze. Spa Pendry adds five treatment rooms, including one for couples, and two eucalyptus steam rooms.
