The Embassy Row Hotel opened in 1970 and became The Ven at Embassy Row in March 2021, when it joined Marriott's Tribute Portfolio under management by Crescent Hotels & Resorts. The 231 rooms and suites look out over Embassy Row's mansions, and the ninth-floor Tag rooftop pool is the property's best-known feature.

The place
The address is 2015 Massachusetts Avenue NW, in Dupont Circle, a neighborhood of embassies, galleries and restaurants. The Dupont Circle Metro station is a short walk away.
The concept
The building opened in 1970 as the independent Embassy Row Hotel and changed hands several times over the following decades. Lowe Enterprises is listed as an owner in its later years. New investors paid for a renovation put at about $15 million and a change of name: ven comes from the Danish word for friend.
The design follows hygge, the Danish and Norwegian idea of comfort and well-being, in light woods and muted tones. Marriott's announcement in March 2021 said the 231 guest rooms and suites overlook the mansions of Embassy Row. Every room carries STAYCAST, which lets guests stream more than 1,000 apps from a phone to the television.
The hotel has three meeting spaces, each sized for up to 25 people, so it serves small corporate and diplomatic groups rather than conferences. A docking station for Spin electric scooters sits on the property.
The grand opening came in March 2021, after delays tied to the pandemic. Crescent Hotels & Resorts, which operates more than 120 properties in the United States and Canada, runs the hotel day to day. Tribute Portfolio counted nearly 50 hotels worldwide at the time.
Dining & wellness
Fred & Stilla Restaurant and Bar serves globally inspired breakfast, lunch and dinner; Valley Brook Tea runs as a pop-up tea service. The ninth-floor Tag Rooftop Bar and Pool pairs a sundeck and cabanas overlooking Dupont Circle with a bar that turns 21-and-up after 5pm.
