Moxy Washington, DC Downtown opened in November 2018 at 1011 K Street NW, at 11th and K. The 200-room hotel rises 14 stories and is partly built into an 1870 building that was once the home of a Civil War Union general. Its rooftop bar, Lucha Rosa, is the part most people come for.

The place
The hotel is in downtown Washington, a short walk from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and Mount Vernon Square.
Next to it stands Parlour Victoria, a private event space in a 19th-century townhouse with a multi-level patio overlooking K Street.
The concept
A new build that keeps an 1870 structure at its base, Moxy DC was designed with Dash Design, which calls the interiors industrial chic: polished concrete floors, exposed columns and open ceilings. The lobby carries art by the local artist Michael Crossett and a video installation by Rahul Jhad.
Check-in happens at the bar, where guests are handed a signature cocktail with their room key. Rooms use mobile check-in and check-out and keyless entry, and Wi-Fi is free.
Aimed at younger business and leisure travelers, it sits in the budget-lifestyle tier of Marriott's lineup, and the opening press pointed to a low price point without quoting rates. A 24-hour grab-and-go counter opened with the hotel.
Dining & wellness
Lucha Rosa has a retractable roof, indoor and outdoor seating and views of the Washington Monument. The name nods to Mexican wrestling, and the decor adds Oaxacan-inspired magenta flowers. The kitchen sends out ceviches, crudos, salads and tacos, among them pork belly tacos and guacamole made to order.
When the rooftop opened in 2019 it was described as the city's first glass-enclosed rooftop bar, and Atlas Restaurant Group was named as operator in 2018. Since June 2024 Remington Hospitality has run it, with a bar list of more than 65 tequilas and 30 mezcals.

June 19, 2024: Remington Hospitality took over management of Lucha Rosa, the rooftop restaurant and bar of the 200-room Moxy Washington, DC Downtown. The all-season rooftop has a retractable roof and views of the Washington Monument. Remington announced a menu of ceviches, crudos and tacos, a cocktail list with more than 65 tequilas and 30 mezcals, monthly nights for neighboring residents and a designated safe space for the LGBTQ+ community.
