The place
The hotel sits at 411 New York Avenue NE in the Union Market District, northeast Washington's warehouse-turned-dining and retail hub, a short walk from the market hall and NoMa-Gallaudet Metro station.
The concept
The building dates to 1931, when the Bolgiano Seed Company (a Baltimore-founded firm established in 1819 and known for supplying lawn seed to the White House and the National Mall) opened its New York Avenue location to coincide with the launch of Union Terminal Market. The hotel takes its name from Nell Bolgiano, who led the family enterprise for decades. The 106-room property leans into that industrial-agricultural history with plant-filled, greenhouse-inflected interiors, including a rooftop garden planted with Virginia sweetspire, fameflower and American yellowwood.
Dining & wellness
F&B is run by local partner VERSUS Equity across three venues: the Treehouse Rooftop, a Tulum-inspired indoor/outdoor lounge with global small plates and cocktails; a ground-floor café inspired by the Bolgiano Seed Company, serving farm-forward breakfasts; and Singing Tiger, a modern Asian restaurant and bar.
