Eaton DC opened in September 2018 at 1201 K Street NW, on the site of a former Four Points by Sheraton, as the first hotel of Eaton Workshop. The brand's founder, Katherine Lo, is the daughter of Lo Ka Shui, whose Great Eagle group owns the Langham hotels. She has said her father challenged her in 2014 to create a new hospitality brand. The 209 rooms sit alongside a restaurant, three bars, a cafe and a members-only workshop, all organised around a progressive, arts-minded program.

The place
The hotel stands at the corner of 12th and K Streets in downtown Washington, a few blocks from Franklin Square and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. K Street is the capital's lobbying corridor, and the hotel was pitched at the opposite end of the political spectrum: press coverage at the opening called it a resistance-chic hotel.
The concept
The building is older than its new identity. A nine-story tower dates from 1962 and a five-story section from 1942, according to the structural engineers who worked on it. Great Eagle Holdings bought the property from JBG Companies in 2014 for $69 million. It had been a 265-room Four Points by Sheraton, then briefly the independent Twelve and K Hotel, before the renovation.
The work reinforced the upper floors and removed a rooftop pool, to make room for suites and a rooftop bar. The room count fell from 265 to 209. Interiors are credited to Gachot Studios and Parts and Labor Design.
The announced program went beyond rooms: a co-working space, event space, a 50-seat cinema, a radio station and a wellness center. The members-only workshop is the part that ties these together, designed for creative and political work rather than for hotel guests alone.
The grand opening was set for September 28, 2018, with a limited menu served beforehand in a second-floor lounge. Hong Kong, San Francisco and Seattle were named as the next Eaton locations at the time.
Dining & wellness
American Son is the 150-seat flagship, open from breakfast to late night, with weekend brunch. Chef Tim Ma draws on his Chinese-American background and leans toward vegetables, with dishes such as a wood-oven lamb leg ssam and a vegetable tower. He also designed the tiffin-box room service and the food for the members' workshop.
Wild Days is the rooftop bar, partly enclosed like a greenhouse, with plants, lounge furniture, fire pits and a large mosaic by the Baltimore artist Zoe Charlton. It holds about 270 standing guests, has a stage for live music and DJs, and serves a pan-Asian taco menu.
Allegory is a dim cocktail bar off the lobby, run by bartender Alexandra Bookless, with classic-style drinks and room for small live performances. Kintsugi, with 42 seats and its own street entrance, serves tea, coffee and pastries from David Collier, formerly pastry chef at 1789, including vegan and gluten-free options. The hotel stresses sustainable, organic and plant-based sourcing.
