The Old Post Office Pavilion's hotel chapter continues: after opening as the Trump International Hotel in 2016, the landmark building reopened on June 1, 2022 as the 263-room Waldorf Astoria Washington DC under a Hilton flag. In November 2021 the Trump Organization sold the lease for $375 million. The land belongs to the federal government.

The place
The hotel sits at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, between the White House and the Capitol, inside the clock-towered Old Post Office Pavilion. The National Park Service runs tours of the tower, whose observation deck is open to the public. Sources differ on whether the tower ranks second or third among the tallest structures in the capital.
The concept
The Romanesque Revival building went up between 1892 and 1899 as a federal post office and later served the General Services Administration. A long redevelopment under Beyer Blinder Belle turned it into the Trump International Hotel, which opened in September 2016.
The Trump hotel closed a few weeks before the Waldorf Astoria opened, and the 2022 rebrand involved no major rebuild. Rooms keep elements of the original building: solid wood doors, wainscoting and tall windows.
The change of name came with new ownership. Documents released by the House Oversight Committee showed the hotel lost about $70 million while Trump held office, a figure he disputed, saying it made over $150 million.
Dining & wellness
Peacock Alley serves American cuisine and cocktails under the atrium, in the lobby. Bazaar Meat by José Andrés is the steakhouse, and Sushi Nakazawa offers a 20-course omakase. The Waldorf Astoria Spa occupies the former mailroom; sources give different sizes, one citing 10,000 square feet, another describing six treatment rooms, and it includes a couples suite with a Himalayan salt chamber.
