The place
1100 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, roughly midway between the White House and the U.S. Capitol, inside the clock-towered Old Post Office Pavilion.
The concept
The Romanesque Revival Old Post Office was built between 1892 and 1899 as a federal government building and later a General Services Administration property; a long redevelopment under Beyer Blinder Belle turned it into the Trump International Hotel Washington, D.C., which opened in September 2016. CGI Merchant Group acquired the ground lease in 2022 and stripped the Trump name, reopening the same building in June 2022 as the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC under a Hilton management agreement — a straight operator and brand swap on an unchanged, federally landmarked shell. The clock tower, atrium and much of the original stonework and millwork remain, now paired with Waldorf Astoria service standards.
Dining & wellness
Peacock Alley serves refined American cuisine and cocktails in the atrium; Bazaar Meat by José Andrés is a fire-driven steakhouse, alongside Sushi Nakazawa. The 10,000-square-foot Waldorf Astoria Spa occupies the building's former mailroom, including a Himalayan salt chamber.
