The Potomac Hotel, Autograph Collection debuted in the first days of August 2026 on the Southwest Waterfront of Washington, D.C. It replaces the Salamander Washington DC, which itself took over from the Mandarin Oriental that opened on the site in 2004. Pyramid Global Hospitality, a Boston-based operator, now manages the 373 rooms. Ownership does not change: Henderson Park bought the hotel in 2022, and Salamander Collection founder Sheila Johnson stays on as a minority partner.

The place
The hotel stands at 1330 Maryland Avenue SW, on the Southwest Waterfront. The Wharf, the district of restaurants, marinas and music venues along the Potomac, and the National Mall are each a short walk away in opposite directions. Reagan National Airport is about 15 minutes by car.
The name nods to the river that frames the neighborhood.
The concept
The address has now carried three flags in about two decades: Mandarin Oriental from 2004, the independent Salamander Washington DC after Henderson Park's 2022 purchase, and Marriott's Autograph Collection since August 2026. The change brings Marriott Bonvoy booking and points to the building for the first time.
What changed physically is not documented. The owner says it has invested in every aspect of the guest experience since the 2022 purchase, but neither the scope nor the cost of the work has been published. The managing director, Bertrand Mangeot, describes the plan as introducing new experiences while staying true to the character regulars already know. Autograph Collection is Marriott's independent-minded soft brand, which lets a hotel keep its own name and identity under the loyalty umbrella.
Meeting and event space totals 38,000 square feet, indoors and out, which makes the property one of the larger event venues on the waterfront.
Dining & wellness
Dōgon, chef Kwame Onwuachi's Afro-Caribbean restaurant, opened in 2024 and remains the hotel's main dining room. It has appeared in recent lists from Condé Nast Traveler (2025), 50 Best (2026), Food & Wine (2026) and Washingtonian.
The hotel has other food and beverage outlets, but the owner has not published their names or concepts.
The dual-level spa offers wellness and grooming services, and a heated indoor pool and a fitness center complete the amenities.

August 6, 2026: The former Salamander Washington DC reopened as The Potomac Hotel, Autograph Collection, a Marriott soft-brand hotel with 373 rooms on the Southwest Waterfront. Pyramid Global Hospitality took over management, Henderson Park remains the owner, and Sheila Johnson, founder of Salamander Collection, stays as a minority partner. Dōgon by chef Kwame Onwuachi stays on site, alongside a dual-level spa, a heated indoor pool, a fitness center and 38,000 square feet of event space. Marriott Bonvoy loyalty is added to the property.
