Formerly the Mandarin Oriental (2004) and then the independent Salamander Washington DC (2022), the 373-room Southwest Waterfront hotel relaunched in August 2026 as The Potomac Hotel under Marriott's Autograph Collection, managed by Pyramid Global Hospitality.

The place
1330 Maryland Avenue SW, on the Southwest Waterfront a short walk from The Wharf and the National Mall.
The concept
The property opened in 2004 as the Mandarin Oriental Washington, D.C. Henderson Park acquired it in 2022 and relaunched it as the independent Salamander Washington DC, with Sheila Johnson's Salamander Collection running it as a standalone luxury property. In August 2026, Henderson Park handed day-to-day management to Pyramid Global Hospitality and rebranded again as The Potomac Hotel under Marriott's Autograph Collection, bringing Bonvoy loyalty booking to the address for the first time — the building's third distinct hotel identity in two decades, with Johnson staying on as a minority owner.
Dining & wellness
Dōgon, chef Kwame Onwuachi's Afro-Caribbean restaurant, remains on-site; the hotel also has a dual-level spa, a heated indoor pool, a fitness center and roughly 38,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space.
