Ian Schrager returns to the Sunset Strip site of the original Standard Hotel with PUBLIC West Hollywood, a 137-room reinvention built with architect John Pawson. The hotel's centerpiece is a 16,000-square-foot rooftop park with panoramic Los Angeles views, rooms starting at $495 a night, and a deliberately pared-back concept: no front desk, no in-room TVs, no celebrity chef.

The place

On Sunset Boulevard on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, on the site of the original Standard Hotel, which operated from 1999 until its 2021 closure.

The concept

The third outpost of Ian Schrager's PUBLIC concept, reimagined with British minimalist architect John Pawson and built around what Schrager calls 'democratic luxury' — no front desk, no in-room televisions, no celebrity chef, deliberately stripped of the excess associated with Sunset Strip hotels. Every room doubles as a screening room with an 8-by-12-foot screen.

Dining & wellness

Three food-and-entertainment venues, a pool and a nightclub built around a sophisticated sound system rather than a conventional bar scene; no spa.

News

June 16, 2026The hotel's July 15, 2026 opening has been pushed back; its own reservation system now shows first available bookings starting September 16, 2026, at least the third delay since the project's late-2025 announcement.
