The place
The hotel sits one block south of Sunset Boulevard on Cahuenga Boulevard, in the stretch of Hollywood where entertainment-industry offices — Netflix on Vine, Live Nation, Fender, BuzzFeed — cluster alongside the neighborhood's tourist landmarks. The Walk of Fame, the TCL Chinese Theatre and the Pantages Theatre are all within walking distance, and the Hollywood Bowl, Capitol Records and Universal Studios are a short drive away. It is a location that trades equally on Hollywood's working entertainment economy and its sightseeing draw, which shapes a guest mix of industry travelers and leisure visitors rather than one or the other.
The concept
The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood is operated by Oxford Hotels & Resorts, the Chicago-based hospitality company founded by John W. Rutledge that built the Godfrey brand in Chicago and Boston before bringing it to California. Interiors are by The Gettys Group, exteriors by Steinberg Hart, and the property carries an extensive art program by Los Angeles artist Nick Petronzio, produced with Kevin Barry Fine Art — including a bronze "Dress and Tuxedo" sculpture and hand-painted gold wings in the lobby that run over 6.5 feet high. The design leans on Old Hollywood glamour rendered in contemporary terms: a clean-lined glass-and-metal exterior, sculptural furniture, monochrome interiors and industrial texture inside, rather than a literal period pastiche. At 220 rooms, the hotel sits in the lifestyle category — smaller and more design-driven than the convention-scale properties nearby, and built around a single outsized amenity, the I|O rooftop, that functions as much as a Hollywood social venue as a hotel feature. The result targets a guest for whom the rooftop and the neighborhood's working entertainment address matter as much as the room itself.
Dining & wellness
ALK (About Last Knife) occupies the ground floor, an all-day SoCal restaurant and bar serving contemporary California fare — seasonal produce alongside premium fish and meat dishes, with vegetarian and vegan options — plus a courtyard wine bar. On the seventh floor, I|O Rooftop spans 12,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space with two bars, a swimming pool, fire pits, a water feature and a 70-foot projection-mapping video wall, serving cocktails and a bar-bites menu against 360-degree views taking in the Hollywood Sign, Downtown LA and, on clear days, the ocean.
