Hotel Lucile

Casetta is converting a landmarked 1931 church in Silver Lake into a 25-room hotel, keeping the stained glass, the chapel ceiling and the rooftop cross rather than building new. After missing several earlier target dates, the project is now slated for 2026, with the operator's own site still describing it as not yet open as of mid-August.

The place

The hotel sits at the corner of Griffith Park Boulevard and Lucile Avenue in Silver Lake, an east-side Los Angeles neighborhood built around its reservoir and known for mid-century houses, independent shops and a resident population that skews toward music, film and design work rather than the entertainment-industry gloss of the Westside. A hotel of this scale here is unusual: Silver Lake has restaurants and bars with a national profile but almost no standalone lodging, so Hotel Lucile occupies a niche rather than competing with an existing hotel row.

The concept

The building is the former Pilgrim Church, a white Romanesque-style sanctuary constructed in 1931 that had sat unused for years and cycled through failed redevelopment attempts, a bankruptcy filing by a previous owner, and litigation before Casetta acquired the project in 2020. The conversion is presented as adaptive reuse rather than a gut renovation: the stained-glass windows, the chapel's timber ceiling, the rooftop cross and the attached rectory were retained, with guest rooms built into the church and rectory footprint rather than through new construction.

Dining & wellness

Casetta's own materials describe a restaurant and bar occupying the former chapel, a rooftop pool and lounge, and smaller event and gathering spaces including a former choir-loft area. As of this writing the hotel's own website lists the restaurant and bar as 'coming soon,' meaning food and beverage service was not yet confirmed operational even as the property neared its opening.
