The Valorian Los Angeles, Curio Collection by Hilton

The Valorian Los Angeles, Curio Collection by Hilton opened in April 2026 on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, replacing the Mondrian Los Angeles after nearly thirty years under that name. The 236-room tower, originally designed by Philippe Starck in 1996, is now operated by Pivot for Hilton, with Casa Madera restaurant and a reintroduced rooftop White Rabbit Sky Lounge in place of the old SkyBar.

The place

The 12-story tower stands on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, on the Strip's western stretch near La Cienega, with rooms and the rooftop looking out over the Hollywood Hills and, on clear days, the downtown Los Angeles skyline.

The concept

The building opened in 1959 as an apartment complex before L'Ermitage Hotel Group converted it into Le Mondrian in 1985. Ian Schrager and Morgans Hotel Group bought the property in 1996, dropped the "Le" and brought in Philippe Starck for a redesign that turned it into a Sunset Strip fixture — oversized furniture, a deliberately disorienting lobby, and a rooftop SkyBar that became one of the era's defining nightlife rooms. The hotel changed hands and management several times over the following decades under the Mondrian name, including a $19 million renovation in 2019, before Hilton relaunched it in April 2026 as The Valorian Los Angeles, Curio Collection by Hilton, with day-to-day operations handed to Pivot, Davidson Hospitality Group's lifestyle arm. The rebrand keeps the theatrical bones — 30-foot entry doors, layered and heavily lit interiors — while trading Morgans/Ennismore-era independence for Hilton's distribution and Honors loyalty program, a swap increasingly common among long-running lifestyle hotels.

Dining & wellness

Casa Madera, the property's coastal Mexican restaurant, carries over from the Mondrian era. The rooftop SkyBar has been reintroduced as White Rabbit Sky Lounge, with day-to-night programming and panoramic Strip views.
