Origin Hotel Atlanta opened July 21, 2025, converting a stalled 1950s office building into a 122-room boutique property at the corner of Mitchell and Pryor streets in South Downtown, one block from Underground Atlanta. It is the first new hotel to open in the neighborhood in years, and one of the few large private investments to land south of Five Points near the Georgia State Capitol.

The place

The hotel sits in South Downtown, Atlanta's original 19th-century business district, in the area known as Government Walk for its concentration of government buildings, including the Georgia State Capitol. The address at 110 Mitchell Street SW puts guests within a block of Underground Atlanta and within walking distance of two MARTA stations, Five Points and Garnett, as well as Mercedes-Benz Stadium, State Farm Arena, Zoo Atlanta and Georgia State University. Developer The Thrash Group, a Mississippi-based firm, bought the six-story building for $16 million in early 2022 after it had sat vacant, betting on a part of downtown Atlanta that has seen comparatively little hospitality investment despite its proximity to the city's civic and sports core.

The concept

Origin Hotel Atlanta is owned by The Thrash Group and operated by Tandem Hospitality Group under Wyndham's Origin brand, an adaptive-reuse conversion of a midcentury office building rather than new construction. The renovation kept the loft-like bones of the original structure — exposed brick and tall concrete ceilings — and paired them with warm wood finishes and Atlanta-referencing decor developed with local art consulting firm Faulkner + Locke, including vintage typewriters and custom books placed throughout the rooms. A 50-foot sculpture titled "ATL," by artist Phil Proctor, anchors the lobby alongside additional work by Ricardo Moody and Adelle Harvey. The 122 rooms and suites span layouts including corner king, king classic, corner double queen, double queen classic, a bunk room and a premier suite, each fitted with a mini-fridge, Nespresso machine, HD TV, work desk and wireless charging station. Opening rates started at $122 a night for king rooms and $328 for premier suites. The property also carries more than 2,500 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a top-floor private room with skyline views, positioning it for both leisure travelers drawn to the neighborhood's civic and sports attractions and small corporate or event bookings.

Dining & wellness

The hotel's restaurant, Social Capitol American Bistro, serves scratch-prepared American food with Southern touches — dishes cited include peach braised pulled pork and biscuit-battered tenders — alongside a full bar with craft cocktails. Beyond dining, the property leans into lifestyle amenities: a state-of-the-art fitness center, a local retail storefront selling Atlanta-themed merchandise, complimentary e-bike rentals through a partnership with Pedego Atlanta, in-room yoga kits, and pet-friendly stays with a "Pup Pack" for traveling dogs.
