METT Singapore

On Fort Canning Hill, a 1926 British military headquarters that spent the 2010s as the boutique Hotel Fort Canning has been rebuilt inside its own facade as METT Singapore, Sunset Hospitality Group's first hotel in Asia. Behind the preserved neoclassical front, 84 rooms, padel and pickleball courts, a private members' club and a Mediterranean-leaning restaurant lineup opened in phases from October 28, 2025.

The place

METT Singapore sits inside Fort Canning Park, the forested hill overlooking the Singapore River that has served in turn as a royal burial ground, a British colonial garrison, and Singapore's first botanical garden. The hotel occupies the hill's summit, a few minutes' walk from Clarke Quay and a short drive from Orchard Road. Rooms face either the park's greenery or the downtown skyline.

The concept

The building dates to 1926, when it was raised as the administration block for the British Far East Command headquarters; General Arthur Percival kept an office here, and the site's underground complex was where the 1942 surrender to Japanese forces was planned. The structure served military purposes into the 1970s before DP Architects converted it into a boutique hotel, Hotel Fort Canning, which opened in 2010 and earned a Singapore URA Architectural Heritage Award for the restoration. In December 2024, Dubai-based Sunset Hospitality Group took over management of the property from its previous operator and undertook a full interior renovation, keeping the colonnaded neoclassical facade intact while rebuilding the rooms, public spaces and back of house to launch as METT Singapore in October 2025. It is Sunset's first hotel in Asia, following METT properties in Marbella, Bodrum and Barcelona, and its arrival is billed by the group as the start of a wider Asia-Pacific push that already includes a second, larger newbuild property, Casa METT Singapore, on Orchard Road.

Dining & wellness

The hotel leans on Sunset's Mediterranean-coastal identity, translated here into four dining and social venues under culinary director Daniele Sperindio: L'Amo Bistrò del Mare for Italian coastal cooking, Canning Bar & Lounge for coffee and cocktails, plus further concepts following in later phases. Recreation is built around padel and pickleball courts, two outdoor pools, and a Technogym-equipped gym running boutique classes. Wellness continues into Madison House, a private members' club in the same complex, which houses the first Asia-Pacific outpost of The Longevity Suite — a European recovery and biohacking concept offering cold plunge, sauna, cryotherapy and steam facilities.
