Singapore's arts district has a new anchor: Hotel Waterloo, a 502-room property that opened on Waterloo Street in mid-January 2026 as the newest addition to Accor's Handwritten Collection. Its tropical, botanical interiors and outdoor lap pool sit inside a scale the boutique-oriented brand has rarely attempted before, in a neighbourhood defined by museums, temples and independent craft shops rather than the city's usual hotel clusters.

The place

Hotel Waterloo sits at 78 Waterloo Street, inside the Bras Basah-Bugis enclave that Singapore's Urban Redevelopment Authority has long designated the city's arts and heritage precinct. The address places guests within walking distance of the National Museum of Singapore, the Singapore Art Museum, several working temples and mosques, and the Bugis shopping strip, with the Bencoolen and Bras Basah MRT stations both a few minutes on foot.

The concept

The hotel commits to a tropical, botanical interior language throughout: deep, muted greens, planting worked into circulation spaces and lobbies, and guestrooms lined in botanical-print wallpaper intended to read as a forest interior rather than a generic garden motif. It is paired with a heritage narrative specific to the block it sits on — the property's own materials cite the family history of a jewellery business long established in the neighbourhood, and the hotel offers guests a curated Gem and Jewellery Heritage Trail pointing to nearby museums and artisan shops. Smart-room technology (voice-controlled lighting and air-conditioning, an AI-based concierge, mobile check-in and robotic in-room delivery) is layered onto that design rather than positioned as the headline. At 502 rooms, Hotel Waterloo is markedly larger than the boutique, often sub-150-key format the Handwritten Collection has generally used since Accor built the brand around independently minded, design-forward properties. It is described in Accor's own materials as the brand's largest opening to date, a scale choice that reads as a bet on Bras Basah-Bugis's group and corporate demand as much as on leisure travellers drawn to the design story.

Dining & wellness

Dining centres on Antler & Ember, the hotel's in-house restaurant serving a Western and Asian fusion menu, with a complimentary breakfast buffet offered to children under 12. Emerald Bar handles the drinks side of the property. Outdoor space is built around a lap pool positioned as a green-toned retreat within the dense Bras Basah-Bugis streetscape, alongside a fitness centre with cardio equipment, stationary bikes and free weights; guestrooms add a minibar with a Nespresso machine as a standard in-room touch.
