InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate

Manchester's most photographed hotel address is changing hands without changing shape. IHG has signed the Hilton-operated upper floors of Beetham Tower for a rebrand as InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate, due to complete by 2027, with the 264-room hotel and its landmark Cloud 23 bar staying open throughout the transition.

The place

The hotel occupies floors one to twenty-two of Beetham Tower, a 169-metre, 47-storey needle designed by architect Ian Simpson and completed in 2006 on Deansgate in central Manchester. It was the tallest building outside London until November 2018 and remains one of the most recognisable silhouettes on the city's skyline. The address sits within walking distance of Spinningfields' office and retail district, Manchester Central's exhibition halls, and the Deansgate-Castlefield tram and rail interchange.

The concept

The building opened in 2006 as Hilton Manchester Deansgate, operated by Hilton Worldwide, and traded under that flag for nearly twenty years. In June 2025, IHG Hotels & Resorts signed an agreement with owner Blue Manchester Hotel Limited to take over operation and rebrand the property as InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate by 2027 — the group's fifth InterContinental in the UK and Ireland, and its first in Manchester. The changeover began on August 18, 2025, when the hotel dropped the Hilton flag and started trading under an interim, unbranded name while refurbishment proceeds. IHG has described the coming renovation as comprehensive, covering all 264 guestrooms and suites, plus the ground-floor public spaces, pool and fitness areas, and the hotel's 18 meeting rooms totalling roughly 1,821 square metres of event space. The hotel is staying open and fully staffed throughout construction.

Dining & wellness

The property's best-known asset survives the rebrand: Cloud 23, the cocktail bar on the 23rd floor, wrapped in glass with a cantilevered overhang and panoramic views over Manchester, has continued operating without interruption through the ownership change and is expected to remain the hotel's signature venue under the InterContinental flag. At ground level, the Podium Bar & Restaurant handles all-day dining and continues to operate as usual during the transition; a named replacement concept has not been announced.
