Aloft by Marriott Manchester City Centre

Aloft by Marriott opened its Manchester City Centre hotel on Deansgate on 16 June 2026, a 358-room tower that Marriott describes as the brand's largest in Europe. The building was originally under construction as a Hampton by Hilton before Hilton withdrew from the project and Aloft took over the near-finished structure, which overhangs the Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink viaduct and repurposes a historic brick railway arch as its dining space.

The place

The hotel stands on Deansgate, Manchester's principal north-south artery through the city centre, at the point where the street meets the Castlefield conservation area. It overhangs the Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink viaduct, putting tram, rail and bus connections at the door, and sits within walking distance of Spinningfields, the Deansgate Locks bar strip and the city's core business and retail districts.

The concept

The 22-storey tower was developed by Dean Street Developments and was originally under construction as what was billed as the UK's largest Hampton by Hilton, with signage installed and rooms close to completion, before Hilton withdrew from the project in 2025. Marriott's Aloft brand took over the finished building rather than starting again, giving the city a 358-room hotel that opened as a different brand from the one Deansgate had watched go up. Aloft's positioning targets a design-led, tech-comfortable guest rather than a business-traveller default: compact, efficient rooms, a lobby built around a social hub instead of a conventional reception desk. At 358 rooms it is presented as the brand's largest property in Europe, and its first in the city.

Dining & wellness

Food and drink centres on Re:Fuel by Aloft, a grab-and-go counter for coffee and quick bites, and the W XYZ bar, serving craft cocktails alongside a live-music programme spotlighting local musicians. The hotel's distinguishing space is a converted brick railway arch at the edge of Deansgate Locks, kept with its corrugated roof and exposed brickwork, which serves as the venue for breakfast and dinner rather than a standard hotel restaurant. There is a 24-hour fitness centre and meeting space, but no spa or pool reported.
