Hotel Brooklyn Manchester opened in February 2020 on Portland Street, in the city centre. The 189-bedroom new-build was designed by squid.inc, the team behind Hotel Gotham, and is run by Bespoke Hotels as a sister property to that hotel. The construction firm Marshall CDP holds the freehold, and Bespoke has a long-term lease. Eighteen bedrooms are fully accessible.

The place
The hotel is on Portland Street, in Manchester city centre. It is a purpose-built block rather than a conversion, which is what allowed the accessible bedrooms and their fittings to be planned into the structure from the first drawings.
The concept
Bespoke Hotels chairman Robin Sheppard announced the opening in November 2019 for the following February. The bedrooms are styled after Brooklyn loft spaces, with industrial detailing. General manager Paul Bayliss ran the opening.
Accessibility was designed in rather than added later. Motionspot, the consultancy of Ed Warner, oversaw the work. The 18 accessible bedrooms have basins with built-in hand grips, removable matt black grab rails, accessible storage and a hidden ceiling track hoist. The hotel calls itself Manchester's most accessible, a description it applies to itself.
Smaller choices follow the same logic. Bathrooms use organic bamboo toothbrushes, ethically sourced toothpaste and refillable green soap and lotion dispensers designed to cut waste. Nightly rates started from 145 pounds for two people, breakfast included.
Dining & wellness
Runyon's is the ground-floor bar and restaurant, named after the writer Damon Runyon and the Broadway characters of his short stories. The menu mixes European and American cooking, with crab flake à la Newberg, bacon fried rice, a BLT wedge and hash browns among the early dishes.
Salvation, on the top floor, is an events bar with exposed brick, pop art and neon lights.
