The former Loews Minneapolis Hotel became The Lofton Hotel on March 4, 2024, the day its sale to Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Hempel Real Estate and Robinson Park closed. It is the first Tapestry Collection by Hilton property in Minnesota, with 251 rooms and suites. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

The place
The hotel stands at 601 First Avenue North in downtown Minneapolis. A skywalk connects it to Target Center, and Target Field is a short walk away. The Minneapolis Skyway System also links the building to the business district and to nearby offices, which keeps winter commutes indoors.
The Hennepin Theatre District and the shopping streets of downtown are within walking distance.
The concept
A genuine brand change rather than a simple rename: the independent Loews flag came down on the day of the sale and the Lofton name went up under Hilton's Tapestry Collection, the group's line of independent upscale hotels. Marcus Hotels & Resorts, based in Milwaukee, manages the property, one of 19 hotels in 10 states that the company runs. Jim Waldvogel, previously at the Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington, is general manager.
The 251 rooms and suites take their decor from Minnesota's landscape and from Minneapolis itself, drawing on its waterways, industry, music and art. Rooms have Keurig coffee makers and bathrooms with limestone counters and glass basins. Many suites have skyline views, and several look onto Target Field, including home plate.
Two signature suites honor local artists. One contains a grand piano once played by Billy Joel, and both have large living areas and Minneapolis-themed artwork.
The hotel has more than 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space with audiovisual equipment, used for conferences and weddings. A fitness center with cardio and weight equipment and Peloton bikes, a business center and a pet-friendly policy complete the services.
Dining & wellness
Cosmos is the main restaurant, on the fourth floor, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hilton describes the cooking as modern American, inspired by Midwest favorites. The announcement of the rebrand had spoken of New American cuisine with Pacific influences, so the menu has moved since the first plans.
A lobby-level bar and lounge serves craft cocktails, local microbrews and small plates, and there is a coffee shop. Marcus said at the time of the sale that both outlets would be reworked into a food and beverage concept aimed at locals as well as hotel guests.
News
March 4, 2024: Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Hempel Real Estate and Robinson Park closed on the purchase of the Loews Minneapolis Hotel, terms undisclosed. Marcus began managing the 251-room property immediately and rebranded it as The Lofton Hotel under Hilton's Tapestry Collection, the brand's first hotel in Minnesota. Jim Waldvogel was named general manager. The hotel has more than 15,000 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center with Peloton bikes and a skywalk to Target Center, and the owners planned an upgraded food and beverage concept for its restaurant and lobby bar.
