Embassy Suites by Hilton Minneapolis Downtown opened on August 25, 2016 in the Plymouth Building, a 12-story landmark converted by HRI Properties through a $110 million redevelopment. All 290 units are two-room suites. It is the fifth Embassy Suites in the Twin Cities and the first downtown, and it connects directly to the Minneapolis skyway system.

The place
The hotel is at 12 South Sixth Street, at the corner of Hennepin Avenue, in the Central Business and Warehouse District of downtown Minneapolis. A direct link to the skyway, the network of enclosed footbridges between downtown blocks, lets guests reach offices and shops without going outside, which matters in a Minnesota winter.
The concept
The Plymouth Building is a Beaux-Arts office tower listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014, in part for its unusual construction methods. The conversion kept tall entry doors, marble corridors on the guest floors, granite staircases and oversized windows in the rooms.
HRI Properties developed and owns the hotel, and its sister company HRI Hospitality operates it. U.S. Bank financed the project, which HRI counts as its 81st in 35 years.
Every suite has a separate bedroom and living area, a wet bar with a microwave and mini-refrigerator, a desk with an ergonomic chair, a 49-inch television and a walk-in shower. Corner suites add an L-shaped sofa sleeper and city views. The rate includes a made-to-order breakfast and a two-hour evening reception, as in every Embassy Suites.
Dining & wellness
A bar occupies the lobby, with coffee to go in the morning. Lyon's Pub, an English-style tavern with tap beers, pub food, televisions and a weekend dance floor, kept its place on the lobby level as a long-standing tenant of the building. Evening room service and a 24-hour convenience store complete the offer.
The hotel has an L-shaped indoor heated pool and a fitness center of more than 3,000 square feet with cardio machines and free weights. Heated on-site parking is available.
For events, ten meeting rooms total more than 12,600 square feet, the largest holding 350 guests. The Plymouth Ballroom is the main room, with chandeliers and metallic finishes, and a 24-hour business center serves conference guests.

August 25, 2016: HRI Properties announced the opening of Embassy Suites by Hilton Minneapolis Downtown in the historic Plymouth Building. The hotel has 290 two-room suites, ten meeting rooms with more than 12,600 square feet, a lobby bar, Lyon's Pub, an indoor pool and a 3,000-square-foot fitness center. It is the first Embassy Suites downtown and the fifth in the Twin Cities. HRI Properties developed and owns the hotel, HRI Hospitality operates it and U.S. Bank financed it. Hilton offered 1,000 bonus HHonors points on qualifying stays from November 1, 2016 to April 30, 2017.
