The place
The hotel sits at the corner of 4th Street and Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis' Hennepin Theatre District, a stretch of restored vaudeville-era playhouses and live-music venues a few blocks from Target Center and Nicollet Mall. A direct skyway link lets guests reach much of downtown without stepping outside during Minneapolis winters.
The concept
Developed by construction and real estate firm Mortenson, which also retained an ownership stake, the 129,000-square-foot, nine-story building was designed by ESG Architects and opened as the first AC Hotel by Marriott in Minnesota. It was one of the earlier ground-up examples of the Spanish-born AC Hotels brand's push into the US market, built around the brand's signature pared-back, design-forward template rather than a converted or adapted structure. Day-to-day operations are run by Denver-based Sage Hospitality Group, one of the larger third-party operators of AC-branded properties nationally.
Dining & wellness
AC Kitchen serves a European-style breakfast, while AC Lounge functions as the hotel's all-day bar and tapas room, the brand's usual substitute for a conventional restaurant. The hotel also has an AC Library co-working nook, a boardroom, roughly 1,400 sq ft of meeting space, and a 24-hour fitness center.
