The place

The hotel sits at 110 Stewart Street, at the northern edge of the Pike Place Market corridor, one block from the market's Stewart Street entrance and steps from the monorail and waterfront — a spot where downtown's financial district meets its busiest tourist artery.

The concept

Designed by Seattle firm Olson Kundig, the 12-story tower reads from the street as a glass "lantern" whose faceted, folded facade responds to the odd angle where Stewart Street meets First Avenue — a deliberate answer to one of downtown Seattle's few non-orthogonal intersections. Interiors, by Studio Munge working with local firm Jensen Fey, pair exposed steel and concrete with reclaimed wood and a mix of vintage and contemporary furniture, in keeping with Thompson's boutique-lifestyle positioning. It opened in June 2016 under original owner Commune Hotels & Resorts — the brand's launch into the Pacific Northwest — and passed into Hyatt's fold when Hyatt acquired Commune's successor, Two Roads Hospitality, in November 2018, at which point the hotel formally joined the Thompson Hotels collection within Hyatt's portfolio.

Dining & wellness

The hotel's headline space is The Nest, a 21-and-over rooftop bar and terrace overlooking Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains, built around handcrafted cocktails and small plates leaning on Pacific Northwest produce. Ground-floor dining now operates as Conversation Kitchen & Bar, serving locally-sourced dishes; an earlier restaurant concept at the same address, Scout PNW, has since closed.
