The State Hotel

The State Hotel opened in April 2019 inside the restored 1904 Eitel Building, one of downtown Seattle's oldest high-rises, a block from Pike Place Market. The independent, 91-room hotel is the building's first use as a hotel after decades as offices, a billiard hall, and vacant space.

The place

The hotel occupies 1501 2nd Avenue, on the commercial corridor linking downtown Seattle to Pike Place Market — the market's entrance is roughly 90 steps away, with the waterfront a short walk down the hill.

The concept

The State Hotel occupies the Eitel Building, a 1904 high-rise — one of downtown Seattle's earliest — that cycled through medical offices, a billiard hall, and long stretches of vacancy before Seattle firm Weinstein A+U led its conversion into a 91-room hotel, its first-ever use as lodging. Interior designer Vida Design, led by Rachel Sowieja, built the look around a "classic with an eclectic overlay" brief, pairing the restored 1904 shell with contemporary furnishings and rotating work from local artists throughout the public spaces. It opened as an independent hotel in April 2019.

Dining & wellness

Ben Paris, the ground-floor restaurant, takes its name from a bar and pool hall that once operated in the building, and serves breakfast through dinner plus a happy hour. A guest-only rooftop terrace overlooks the market and skyline; the hotel has no spa.
